Emergence (Original)

This one lives with a friend now. I knew she loved it, and she was having a hard time, so I gave it to her.

I drew it while I was reading about black holes with the kids. I kept thinking about the event horizon: the circle of dark that not even light escapes, and all the light around it that hasn't fallen in yet. We're all light that hasn't fallen in yet. The not-now pulls at you with a force you can't fight, only ride, and whatever goes in comes apart — unravelled, changed, and something new on the other side.

You can't see what's coming, and that's so beautiful.
