Flow State (Original)

I don't remember drawing this one, and that's the point of it. It was made in snatches: a pad of paper carried around, ten minutes on a park bench while the kids played, a cup of tea while they were busy with something else.

I start with a circular grid in pencil. Then one tiny thing — sometimes just a dot — repeated all the way round. Often that's all I manage in one sitting. The next time I get a moment, I add one more small thing and take it round again, and slowly it builds into something bigger than any single sitting.

A day with children is full of joy and full of demands. This is what the small gaps between them add up to: little moments of flow, where the busy everyday me goes quiet and the pattern takes over.
