Glimmers (Original)

This was made at the end of one really lovely day on Anglesey. It was my daughter's birthday. We took a boat out to Puffin Island, had cake, and found a little gallery and art shop in Beaumaris selling handmade, textured paper. Just touching it was a glimmer — one of those small moments where everything else drops away and you're only in the feeling of something.

We ate fish and chips on the beach, and a seagull decided my paper, wrapped in white like the chips, was dinner. I had to grab it back. The wrapping still has a beak-shaped hole in it, which makes me laugh every time.

I painted it that evening, looking out over the mountains of Snowdonia. The blues are the sea, the greens and purples are the mountains, and the gold is the sunlight sparkling on the water. The whole day was one long glimmer — colour and texture and laughter — and this is the end of it.
