Lace Trance (Original)

One of four drawings built on the same underlying structure — the circles that make a torus. I started each one the same way and then let a different pattern grow inside it. Tartan Torus came out like tartan. This one came out like lace.

It's a near-twin of Tranquil Trance 2, with the shading moved into the alternate sections: what was black there is white here, and what was white is black. The same pattern, inverted.

It's the repetition I'm after. Getting each line in the right place, each circle accurate, the same mark again and again — it takes a focus that leaves no room for anything else. The me that's busy with small everyday things falls quiet, and what's left is the part that belongs to something larger.
