Stippled Moon (Original)

One of a series of small black squares I drew in early 2025: this moon, another moon with a snake across it, and then serpents on their own. I'd been reading about the old symbolism of the moon and the serpent, and it stayed with me.

Both are about renewal. The moon waxes and wanes, disappears and comes back — times of growing and times of retreat. The snake outgrows its skin, sheds it, and grows into a new one. That's how the world works, and we're the same. I was in the middle of it myself: leaving my corporate job, home educating full time, working out what I'd do next, and learning to take the mask off. There's power and beauty in that.

There isn't a single line on this page. It's only dots, building up until they look like something. I'd never really worked that way, so I tried it. A lot of my art is play, and picking up a technique I haven't used before puts me back at the beginning, which is where I have the most fun.
