Tartan Torus (Original)

I draw intuitively. A basic shape, one small thing inside it, and then that thing repeated until it runs out and something new has to happen. Here it began with the circles that make a torus, and the pattern grew outwards from there until it looked, by accident, like tartan.

What I'm really after is the repetition itself. Getting each line in the right place, each circle accurate, the same mark again and again — it takes a focus that leaves no room for anything else. The me that's busy with small everyday things falls quiet, and what's left is the part that belongs to something larger. Part of the earth. Part of the whole.

The torus is a shape for that too: energy flowing out, round, and back in through its own centre. Nothing lost.
